“It’s an internal softness that you take with you in everything that you do”
Horsemanship Breakthroughs Podcast: Internal softness, Martial Arts, and ‘Horses Aren’t People’ with Mark Rashid
Mark Rashid is an internationally known author and horseman known for his ability to understand the horse’s point of view and solve difficult problems with communication rather than force.
He began working with horses at age ten, when he met the “old man,” who taught him to work with horses, not against them, and to listen to what the horse is trying to say.
Mark’s clinics are structured as one-on-one work with horse and rider and are immensely popular with people around the world.
When Mark decided to study the martial art of aikido as a way to improve his horsemanship, he brought the same quiet determination to it that he exhibits in his work with horses.
Mark worked full-time on ranches for many years gathering herds, managing stock, and training horses. When time permits, he still enjoys working on ranches near his home in Colorado as well as playing guitar professionally with his friends.
Mark is the author of fourteen books, with his latest titled ‘for the love of the horse’

Horsemanship Breakthroughs Podcast: How being a physiotherapist has influenced my horsemanship journey 💪🏼🐎
| Equestrian Rider Biomechanics Series |
Some of you may know that as well as a horsemanship coach, I am a physiotherapist!
I often get asked questions drawing from my knowledge and experience in this field and how it applies to horses and riding, so I created a whole episode outlining some of my thoughts.
I talk about the similarities between the two industries and how my work in this area has changed my perspective on some horse-related topics, including pain, pathology, posture, movement, and biomechanics.
I also mention the 8 Week Rider Specific Exercise Program designed to help riders become more symmetrical, balanced, fit, strong, coordinated,a and flexible. You can find out more about the program and sign up here:

🐴🎙 Horsemanship Breakthroughs Podcast: Evidence-Based Worming with Jude Matuesiewicz
In this episode I talk with worming expert, Jude Mateusieqicz all things evidence-based worming! 🐛🪱
Jude worked in the field of prevention of increasing resistance to anthelmintics by parasitic worms in horses.
Jude is very knowledgeable on a range of horse-related topics and has a Master of Animal Science from Charles Sturt Unviersity.
She has dedicated a portion of her career to educating horse owners about worm resistance in their horses, and helping them to learn how to undertake faecal egg counts on their own properties with the aid of her DIY manual - Count Your Eggs Before They Hatch.
Jude has written for Horses and People magazine, and is a member of the Australian Society for Parasitology.
Jude's other interest area is in horse tack - specifically bridling - bitted and unbitted bridles and, has also undertaken research with an Australia-wide survey of equestrians about their bridle choices- which we will speak about, along with Jude’s horsemanship journey, in another upcoming episode.

No?
Then this episode is for you!
Horsemanship Breakthroughs Podcast: Help Your Tense, Anxious, Nervous, Spooky Horse Be More Calm, Relaxed, Chill and Confident
"Horses don't pretend to be scared. Horses don't lie about how they feel. If they're acting tense and anxious, they are fearful about something"
In this episode, I discuss how to help your horse when they show you they're afraid, because as I outline in this episode, if your horse is showing tense or spooky behaviour, they're showing us how they feel about something.

Horsemanship Breakthroughs Podcast: Balancing life, achieving horse goals as a mum, and believing in yourself with Meg Mortimer
“Believe in Yourself”
Meg Mortimer describes herself as a mum who never grew out of the horse phase!
She lives in central New South Wales on a sheep farm with her husband and 3 kids.
Meg has loved horses all her life, dabbling in pony club as a kid, and progressing to competing in dressage, showjumping, and eventing in her twenties.
Meg describes herself at that time as being fearless and that meant she could have a lot of fun. In her thirties, she got married and had babies- and suddenly was not so fearless anymore. Meg is now in her forties and has learned to be patient, to take things slow, and improve her communication with her horse. She feels at ease with herself knowing she doesn’t need to compete to prove she is a capable horseperson.
Meg describes her philosophy with horses as always being kind, slowing down, and listening to your horse. Meg says she also loves the intention of balance as this is not only for her horses, but her family and life in general. Meg loves learning and whilst her life is sometimes crazy chaos she loves the ride.
I came across Meg when she signed up to my Horsemanship Fundamentals Academy, and I began teaching Meg through pivo lessons which has been a lot of fun!
In this episode, we talk about Meg’s horsemanship journey and how she overcomes the challenges of balancing life and work whilst pursuing her horse goals in a way that is true to her values around training horses.
You will love Meg’s contagious positive energy and the lessons she shares around her horses Gally, Patch, & Mr Jones.
If you’re a mum and rider with goals you will be inspired by Meg’s story.
